Observations and opinions from major league scouts
Seattle's Erik Bedard and Toronto's A.J. Burnett will draw some attention as the trading deadline approaches. However, two major league scouts-one from each league-agree that neither starting pitcher is appealing.
Both scouts like Burnett s arm, which is "as good as anyone's," according to the N.L. scout. But they have their doubts about his head.
"He's got all the answers," the N.L. scout says, "and he blames everyone else when things go wrong. He won't look in the mirror at himself."
The A.L. scout calls Burnett "a heartbreaker." He shows just enough to make a team believe better results are just around the corner, but they ...
