In 1989, a Symposium on Multiple Sclerosis was published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings. Articles that encompassed pathology, immunology, epidemiology, clinical outcomes, therapeutics, and rehabilitation provided physicians who manage patients with multiple sclerosis as well as scientists with a clear summary of the field at that time. That collection of reports was well received and used as a bound monograph by many US medical schools as background reading for the study of multiple sclerosis during neurology clerkships.
