Abacavir
A 35-year-old HIV-positive man developed a hypersensitivity reaction followed by Parsonage-Turner syndrome while receiving HAART with abacavir.
The man started receiving abacavir 300mg twice daily, lopinavir/ritonavir and lamivudine, and reported fever, skin rash and pharyngodynia 2 weeks later. Acute bacterial pharyngitis was diagnosed and empirical paracetamol [acetaminophen] and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid were introduced. However, his fever persisted 4 days later and his superficial lymph nodes became swollen. Antibacterial therapy was discontinued and he was hospitalised. On admission, he had a body temperature of 380C, spotted erythema, swollen lymph nodes and a sore throat. ...
