Buildings in Canada have a tremendous impact on the environment, contributing 35 per cent of the country's greenhouse gases (CHCs), and represent 33 per cent of Canada's energy consumption, 50 per cent of natural resources extracted from the environment, and 25 percent of waste going to the landfill.
Given those statistics, ensuring more buildings in Canada are high performance - use less energy and water, are more efficient to operate, provide better indoor air quality and natural lighting, among many other characteristics will make a significant impact on the country's overall CHG emissions.
