Highlights and Key Issues
* The military operation, backed by the African Union, ensured that the central government regained control of the island of Anjouan at the end of March. However, the island's evicted president Bacar, together with some of his supporters, managed to escape to Mayotte, from where he went into exile in Benin. A new round of elections in June brought Moussa Toybou to power, hopefully bringing peace and stability.
