California State University East Bay issued the following press release:
Injuries and a freak accident cast a shadow over Olympic competition for the U.S. women's marathon team, including Magdalena Lewy Boulet '00.
Although the weather and air quality cooperated, blessing Beijing with cool, drizzly conditions on race day Aug. 17, the fates did not.
Lewy Boulet's teammate Deena Kastor - who won the Olympic marathon trial in San Francisco in April - pulled out of the marathon at the 3.1-mile mark with a foot injury that an X-ray later revealed to be a broken bone.
About nine miles later, alumna Lewy Boulet's Olympic dream of crossing the finish line in the Bird's Nest stadium also faded. In ...
