Black students who have completed community college receive funding to pursue their bachelor's degrees at some of America's most prestigious colleges and universities.
Approximately 6.5 million students attend the nation's community colleges. More than 900,000 of these students are African Americans. Many choose to go to a community college because they cannot afford the tuition costs at a four-year institution. Other blacks choose a community college that is close to where they live so they can attend classes while living at home and avoid the cost of room and board.
