Journey to Joyous Lake

Gospel music has a rich legacy, and is an integral part of the roots of Jazz. Two Jazz tunes that reflect a strong Gospel influence are Phineas Newborn Jr.'s Harlem Blues, and Dr. Billy Taylor's I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free. Both of these tunes had a strong influence on my own musical development, as I spent many enjoyable hours listening to them at a formative stage. That Gospel influence was absorbed, and is reflected in my playing and composing.
