Taming runaway healthcare costs

We have been writing about out-of-control healthcare costs for as long as we can remember, but the amounts (and share of national income) spent on healthcare continue to rise. According to a recent study by human resources consulting firm William M. Mercer, employers saw their healthcare costs go up by an average of 11.2% in 2001, and expect an average increase of 12.7% for 2002. The news is actually worse for many small companies, some of which are burdened with premium hikes of as much as 40%.
