TROPICAL STORM Fay was gaining strength Monday as it moved towards Cuba leaving at least at least 50 people dead in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

The Miami-based National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said that a tropical storm was now in effect for the northwestern Bahamas, while a hurricane watch remains in effect for Cuba. But the NHC said that all warnings and watches were discontinued for the Cayman Islands.
