VIRTUAL REALITY HELPS UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA CLINIC TREAT WITH ANXIETY DISORDERS

The University of Central Florida, a component of the Florida state university system, issued the following news release:

New virtual reality equipment will help the University of Central Florida's Anxiety Disorders Clinic treat a wider variety of people with debilitating anxiety disorders.

Wearing head-mounted displays, clients can experience airline flights, giving a speech in front of a large crowd or other activities that are difficult to set up as real scenarios. The soothing voice of a psychologist seated at an adjacent computer helps clients describe their fears and gradually overcome them.
