If anyone has ever run screaming from a so-called "Mumblecore" movie, it's only because it's a genre of American cinema shot on hand-held video that tends to fixate on the relationships of articulate people. The movement has a do-it-yourself esthetic, and relies on smart actors and good writing -- as opposed to stars and luxury productions values -- to win over audiences.
Yeah. Eeeek. I know.
But it's in that way Mumblecore has a genetic link to the horror films of the '70s.
