Nomina anatomica contradicta revisited: Especially as it relates to cardiac imaging and electrocardiology

I will use the April 1992 editorial Nomina Anatomica Contradicta1 in this journal as a starting point to respond to the article "Lateral infarction originates RS pattern in V1" by de Luna et al and accompanying Letter to the Editor by the lead author. The use of the terms "Posterior" and "Lateral" in reference to the heart, as summarized in the 1992 editorial and by Bayes de Luna et al in this issue, have a checkered history over the past century. Posterior was used by the early pathoanatomists for the lower (inferior) surface of the heart. This evolved through "diaphragmatic" to "inferior" through the years.
