Undeterred by Vandalism, Couple Strives to Beautify Burlington

Burlington stonemason Cubby Smith was none too pleased to find his hand-built wall at 110 Main Street destroyed earlier this month. "That was disgusting," he says, shaking his head. "It looked like a bomb hit it." Smith estimates he lost "about a week and a half" of work.

The site he's talking about is a courtyard at the so-called "BrickBox" building, owned by architect Bren Alvarez and her builder-contractor husband David Farrington. Smith, 65, has been friends with Farrington's father, also named Dave, since they "played ball together" at Burlington High School.
