Community colleges are stepping up efforts to use institutional research to nprove student success. Many two-year schools are engaging in sophiscated strategic planning that is based on collecting and analyzing data to pinpoint problems, identify solutions and improve programs and services.
The goal is to produce meaningful change that will lead to higher persistence and graduate rates, especially among low-income and minority students. To achieve results, community colleges are moving beyond collecting statistics for reporting and compliance purposes and finding new ways to use data systematically to answer questions about student progress and achievement.
