Article: High uterine rupture risk with high maximum oxytocin dose

There appears to be a 'unacceptable' risk of uterine rupture associated with higher maximum oxytocin doses in patients attempting vaginal birth after caesarean delivery, according to researchers from the US.

To determine the effect of maximum oxytocin dose on uterine rupture in such patients, researchers analysed women from a nested-case control study who were involved in a large retrospective cohort trial. In this analysis, 272 patients exposed to oxytocin were assessed; 62 patients with uterine rupture were compared to 210 patients without uterine rupture.
