Lansoprazole
A 68-year-old woman developed collagenous colitis and longitudinal ulcers during treatment with lansoprazole for gastroesophageal reflux disease.
The woman, who had a history of diabetic nephropathy and ischaemic heart disease, began receiving oral lansoprazole 15 mg/day and low-dose aspirin. Initially she experienced constipation requiring laxatives, however, in the first half of June she developed watery diarrhoea [time to reaction onset not clearly stated]. Laxatives were withdrawn; she received antidiarrhoeals and, in the second half of June 2003, underwent endoscopy of the large intestine.
