Choice of site for biosafety lab is delayed

WASHINGTON - A decision on where a proposed National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility would be located has been postponed until at least the end of the year, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

In June, the department's Science and Technology Directorate named six potential sites for the facility, which would be used for researching threats to the country's food supply, and said a decision could be handed down as early as July.

Now, public meetings will be held near each of the proposed sites later this summer.
