Baseball says goodbye to Yankee Stadium

NEW YORK -- Bobby Abreu walked around the home clubhouse early on Sunday evening, getting all of his teammates to sign a commemorative lineup card.

The former Phillie had been through the pomp and circumstance surrounding the closing of a stadium before. But this was a whole lot different than saying goodbye to the antiseptic donut known as Veterans Stadium back in 2003.

This was Yankee Stadium -- perhaps the grandest and most celebrated stadium in American sports history -- closing its doors. This was the place where mystique, aura, legends and October baseball became intertwined at a single address.
