Public Shares Ideas for Reforming Health Care

FAIRMONT - Cathy Reed of Fairmont had an idea about one way the state could reform health care: Make sure hospitals don't charge a co-pay until after the patients have received the treatment they needed and are out of the emergency room.

She speaks from experience. A few years ago she was hospitalized and stuck with a hefty bill for that portion of her treatment not covered by insurance. She said the hospital wouldn't let her leave until she had paid up.

"Not everybody has a credit card, and not everybody has cash like that available," she said.
