Concerns remain over a lack of nurses and increased workloads in implementing the HPV vaccination programme, despite extra funding
Unite/CPHVA is concerned that there are not enough qualified nurses to implement the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination scheme.
Unite/CPHVA professional officer Rosalind Godson stated: 'We support the HPV scheme, but there are not enough school nurses as primary care trusts (PCTs) in England, health boards in Scotland and local health boards in Wales and Northern Ireland have failed to employ them. Nurses who give immunisations do not have to be qualified school nurses, but do have to be working as part of the school health team.'
