Ceravix selected for British HPV immunization program

With a possibility of being delayed yet again in the US, GlaxoSmithKline's Cervarix has received a major boost in Europe. The human papillomavirus vaccine, designed to prevent cervical cancer, has been selected by the UK department of health for its immunization program.

Due to start in September, the program will vaccinate 12- and 13-year-old girls. A catch-up program for women ages 18 and up will also be implemented. The department of health has declined to comment on the sum it will be paying GSK for the vaccine, however, it will be free of charge to the young women.
