To the average passerby, the June canoe race held in Montreal's Olympic Basin may have looked like any other race. But upon closer inspection, the competitors and their canoes would look far from ordinary. They were participating in the "America's Cup of Civil Engineering"- better known as the American Society of Civil Engineers' (ASCE) 21st Annual National Concrete Canoe Competition.
