Analysis of a long-span post-tensioned concrete structure

Live load vibrations of concreteframed structures are generally not an issue due to their inherent stiffness. On rare occasions, however, human perception of vibrations in a concrete structure is of paramount concern. This was the case for the renovation and expansion of the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) at the Georgia Institute of Technology, located in Atlanta, GA. The structure consisted of a long-span post-tensioned concrete structural system used to span swimming and diving pools constructed for the 1996 Olympics, creating a new fourth floor for the CRC (Fig. 1).
