Syracuse hopes to ride 'The Express' to economic score

Syracuse tourism and university officials are banking on a Hollywood movie to provide an economic jolt. The Sept. 12 world premiere of "The Express," based on the story of former Syracuse University (SU) football star Ernie Davis, will have both a short-term and long-term economic impact on the area, they say.

Syracuse is predicted to see an immediate economic impact of at least $500,000, based on the visitors who are confirmed for "The Express" premiere at the Landmark Theatre, says Tracey Kegebein, vice president of sales and services for the Syracuse Convention & Visitors Bureau, a division of the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce.
