Brown & Brown acquires insurance operations of Shaughnessy Agency

SYRACUSE - Brown & Brown Empire State has acquired the assets of a small Syracuse insurance agency in a move it believes will boost its personal insurance business. And more deals may be on the way.

The acquisition of Shaughnessy Agency, Inc. closed Aug. 29 and took effect Sept. 1. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"It really adds to one of our core business areas," says Nicholas Dereszynski, president of Brown & Brown Empire State.

Shaughnessy was mainly a personal-lines agency serving about1,500 clients, along with a small portfolio of commercial clients. The agency's owner of 45 years, Frank Shaughnessy, plans to retire.
