Article: Rep. Engel Introduces Western Hemisphere Energy Compact Act

WASHINGTON, Oct. 7 -- Rep. Eliot L. Engel, D-New York, has introduced the Western Hemisphere Energy Compact Act of 2008 (H.R. 7183), legislation that would "direct the Secretary of State to work with the Government of Brazil and the governments of other countries in the Western Hemisphere to develop partnerships to strengthen diplomatic relations and energy security by accelerating the development of biofuels production, research, and infrastructure."

The bill, introduced on Sept. 27, was co-sponsored by Rep. Phil English, R-Pennsylvania. It was referred to the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Financial Services Committee.
