Purple Heart Vets Share Memories at NASCAR Event

During their trip to the Coke Zero 400 race courtesy of VFW's Kahle Fund, seven Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans spoke of their experiences since being wounded in action.

VFW's Kahle Fund sent seven Iraq and Afghanistan War Purple Heart recipients to the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Fla., for the Coke Zero.400 NASCAR race on July 5. The veterans spent much of their time during the trip chatting with each other about how they've been coping since receiving their wounds.

Jeremiah Jones, a staff sergeant in the Michigan Army National Guard's 1461st Combat Transportation Company, was wounded on a convoy in Iraq in May 2007. Since then, he has had to work to hold back his anger.
