Earning the distinction of being the busiest port complex in the United States is no small feat, and retaining that distinction into the next century could be even harder.
But that's the task facing the region's port officials. And key to their achieving that goal is the success of a single massive project - the Alameda Corridor.
The project is a planned 22-mile consolidated rail-and-road corridor budgeted at nearly $2 billion and expected to create more than 10,500 construction jobs.
