Got the Munchkins
PacRep pulls off an inspired trip to Oz.
The faces of children light up with excitement as the overture ends and Rebecca Angel, as Dorothy, and her small dog appear onstage. In the dwindling twilight, and through the smoke of two fire pits at the Outdoor Forest Theater, the minimalist set instantly conjures a little farm in Kansas. It's a familiar scene; The Wizard of Oz is unquestionably iconic. And-let's face it-iconic can be boring. When the audience has seen the show time and time again, even the most ardent childhood love can't save it from disingenuous lines and boring effects.
But at the Forest Theater, the magic of Oz flows through the air. Literally. Silhouetted ...
