Chronic migraine is a "disabling, underdiagnosed, unrecognized, and undertreated disorder", say researchers from the US.1 Public health strategies should focus on educating healthcare providers about the fact that chronic migraine is a "migraine subtype worthy of diagnosis and treatment", they contend.
The new definition of chronic migraine, or transformed migraine, requires 15 or more headache days per month over the past 3 months, with at least 8 headache days per month that meet criteria for migraine without aura, or respond to migraine-specific treatment.
