Saturday morning, 70 atom-aged hockey players will hit the ice in shifts to showcase their skills for what is likely their first minor hockey tryout camp.
It's not a direct route to the Big League that Tom Cochrane sings about. Still, it's a big day for the skaters as the tryouts, which conclude on Sunday, will determine the players picked for Hockey Brandon's Atom AA and Atom A Wheat Kings double-rostered teams.
"This is really the first kick at the cat, to let the kids get adjusted to that higher level of hockey, coaching and discipline," Atom AA coach Todd Kokorudz said.
