Article: FORMER OLYMPIANS TO DISCUSS ATHLETES IN CIVIL RIGHTS, BLACK POWER MOVEMENTS

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis issued the following news release:

It was 1968 when John Carlos and his teammate Tommie Smith raised their fists in Black Power salutes after earning Olympic medals.

Carlos and 1972 Olympic hurdler Thomas Hill will discuss the role of Black athletes in the civil rights and Black Power movements during a special presentation at IUPUI on Wednesday (Nov. 5, 2008).
