Cerivastatin

An 85-year-old woman developed rhabdomyolysis and sleep apnoea syndrome while receiving cerivastatin for hypercholesterolaemia [dosage and duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated].

The woman started receiving cerivastatin and subsequently developed rhabdomyolysis with myalgias and muscle weakness. About the same time, she began sleeping for 12 hours every night, but also experienced excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and napped for about 2 hours each afternoon.

The woman was hospitalised for rhabdomyolysis and cerivastatin was discontinued. Her muscle strength slowly recovered, but EDS and residual muscle weakness persisted. She presented for evaluation of sleep ...
