Two patients developed muscle pain (patients 1 and 2) during treatment with atorvastatin and one patient developed muscle pain with elevated creatine kinase level and myositis (patient 3) during treatment with rosuvastatin.
Patient 1, a 63-year-old woman, presented with pain in her right thigh and knee, which had increased in the past 2 days; she attributed her pain to walking during holiday a week before presentation. Her C-reactive protein level was < 10 mg/L and her erythrocyte sedimentation rate was 32 mm/h. She received analgesics. On follow-up, she had quadriceps wasting on the same side.
