The office of the Oakland Mayor issued the following news release:
Mayor Ron Dellums and the Oakland Police Department today announced that the goal of fully staffing the Police Department will be achieved on Friday, November 14, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., during a ceremony for 38 new officers who will join the ranks. The ceremony will take place at the Elihu M. Harris State Building, at 1515 Clay Street. During Mayor Dellums' State of the City address, he made a commitment to reach the city's authorized police force strength of 803 officers by the end of the year.
