Article: Air Guard Reaches End Strength Goal

For the first time in five years, the Air National Guard has ended a fiscal year at full strength.

The service ended fiscal year 2008 on Sept. 30 with 979 airmen above its goal of 106,700 personnel.

Officials credit increased recruiting and retention efforts for the Air Guard's ability to reach its end strength, which is the congressionally authorized number of troops for each service.

"I am proud of being a part of something so amazing," said Lt. Col. Randy Johnson, Air Guard recruiting and retention director.

The numbers are particularly impressive considering the service was 1,000 below its end strength goal in February.
