Article: Certified sustainable palm oil hits the market

The first trade of palm oil certified under the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil's sustainability criteria took place in early September. Now eyes are on UK retailers to beef up earlier commitments on palm oil sourcing.

In August, United Plantations became the world's first palm oil producer to be certified against the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil's (RSPO) criteria. The first batch of crude palm oil "RSPO certificates" was sold to Danish food manufacturer Danisco at $50 per metric ton (MT) one week later.
