Article: Former Wheat King coach passes away

He was the coach who helped the Brandon Wheat Kings make the jump to the Western Canada Hockey League more than 40 years ago.

But Elliott (Specs) Chorley will first and foremost always be remembered as the classic player's coach.

"I think that was his method of getting the best out of us and I think it was a really good way of doing that, for sure," said former Brandon Wheat Kings goaltender Ted Temple, who played for Chorley in Brandon's first year in the old WCHL back in 1967-68. "He was just a fun guy. Everybody liked him."

Chorley passed away in Brandon on Friday at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife Lynda, daughters Kim and Kelly and son Jeff. A memorial service is planned for ...
