Article: Panel Recommends School Safety Measures

The Wisconsin Education Association Council issued the following News from the Capitol report:

The Joint Legislative Council School Safety Committee on Wednesday (December 10, 2008) issued recommendations for legislation to make schools safer.

Recommendations include:

* Require school boards to adopt anti-bullying policies and to annually distribute the policy to students and their parents or guardians. This is one of WEAC's 2009-10 Legislative Agenda items.

* Allow school districts to exceed revenue limits for school safety expenses. The exemption would be $100 per student or $40,000, whichever is greater.

* Create requirements for school safety plans.
