The University of North Carolina-Charlotte issued the following press release:
The Mount Holly Police Department has made an arrest in the murder of Irina Yarmolenko, (who had been a UNC Charlotte student). Police have charged Neal Leon Cassada, Jr. and Mark Bradley Carver with first degree murder and conspiracy.
Ira's body was found on the banks of the Catawba River on May 5, 2008. It was determined that the cause of death was homicide.
"This is a good day for all law enforcement involved in this case and our investigation continues to move forward," said Chief David Belk. "We hope this provides the community and Ira's family with some level of closure."
