The Ocean Conservancy issued the following news release:
Tomorrow, the Bush administration will officially designate three new marine monuments in the Pacific Ocean that will protect pristine ecosystems from industry uses. The new marine protected areas will be located in the tropical waters of the Pacific Ocean surrounding the Northern Mariana Islands, several Central Pacific islands and the world's smallest Atoll in American Samoa. The administration will designate a total area of 195,000 square miles an area 50 percent larger than all U.S. National Parks combined for a historic decision that will help ocean ecosystems build resiliency in the face of climate change.
