Article: ELI LILLY TO PAY VERMONT MEDICAID MORE THAN $2.5 MILLION FOR IMPROPER OFF LABEL MARKETING OF ZYPREXA

The Vermont Attorney General issued the following news release:

Vermont Medicaid will receive more than $2.5 million in a settlement with Eli Lilly in which the company will pay more than $1.4 billion for its improper off-label marketing of its popular anti-psychotic drug, Zyprexa. Zyprexa is a newer generation antipsychotic medication (called atypical antipsychotics) used to treat certain psychological disorders. Between September 1999 and December 2005, Eli Lilly willfully promoted the sale and use of Zyprexa, primarily through a marketing campaign called "Viva Zyprexa," for certain uses which the Food and Drug Administration had not approved.
