High energy expenditures and concerns about climate change have put green design on the data center agenda

Everyone knows that data centers consume tremendous amounts of electricity. In fact, data centers used 61 billion kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity in 2006, according to the National Data Center Energy Efficiency Information Program (NDCEEIP). That is double the amount of energy used in 2000 and represents 1.5 percent of all U.S. electricity consumption.
