Manitoba credit unions have become a magnet for Canadian investors looking for high interest rates and a safe haven for their hard-earned cash.

In September and October, deposits at Westoba Credit Union branches in Brandon have increased as people have discovered that guaranteeing their money in a credit union is an appealing pre-emptive measure in case of further economic turmoil, says Brian Deutscher, marketing and human resources vice-president at Westoba Credit Union.
