Article: Supreme Court Says More Drug Courts Coming Soon to W.Va.

West Virginia, like many states, has a problem with drug and substance abuse and the crime that sometimes accompanies those addictions.

As a result, the state soon will be adding six more drug courts in an effort to reduce jailing costs and to help people get away from a life of substance abuse and crime.

The state began its drug courts system in 2001 to rehabilitate offenders. State officials said the program is a success.

The state currently has four regional adult drug courts covering 14 counties through 11 courts, according to Linda Rae Richmond Artimez, director of Mental Hygiene and Treatment Court Services for the state Supreme Court of Appeals.
