Article: Sen. Akaka Introduces Veterans Health Care Authorization Act

WASHINGTON, Feb. 10 -- Sen. Daniel K. Akaka, D-Hawaii, has introduce the Veterans Health Care Authorization Act of 2009 (S. 252), legislation that would "amend title 38, U.S. Code, to enhance the capacity of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to recruit and retain nurses and other critical health-care professionals, to improve the provision of health care to veterans."

The bill, introduced on Jan. 15, was co-sponsored by Sens. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, and Patty Murray, D-Washington. It was referred to the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee.
