Indoor air quality (IAQ) involves gauging how healthful-or not-the air is in a given room or building.
Air quality can be soured by pollutants that include pesticides, mold, pollen, art supplies, dust, radon, fungi, fibers, animal dander, and gases (see diagram).
Inadequate ventilation can increase indoor pollutant levels. Poorly ventilated buildings don't bring in enough outdoor air to dilute emissions from indoor sources or carry indoor air pollutants outside.
Various pollutants affect individuals differently. People may experience a variety of symptoms, different degrees of reaction, or no effects at all.
