Colombo, March 10 -- The Leopard Project of the Wilderness and Wildlife Conservation Trust says the black leopard that was recently found caught in an illegal wire snare near Deniyaya is a melanistic colour variant and not a separate species (or sub-species).
The Leopard Project of the Wilderness and Wildlife Conservation Trust says as wildlife conservation ecologists who have been conducting observational research on the Sri Lankan leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) here since 2001 they were thrilled to see the exposure afforded this top carnivore on the front page of the Daily Mirror last week.
