Article: ACCSU charges Ports Authority request to transfer seized goods outside as illegal

Colombo, Jan. 26 -- The All Ceylon Customs Services Union (ACCSU) charged yesterday that the Ports Authority Chairman's request to the Customs Department's Director General to transfer goods seized and detained by the Ports Authority to a warehouse belonging to the government outside the Port premises, was 'illegal'.

ACCSU secretary J. A. Gunatilake said that the Ports Authority Act only says that goods which are seized and detained by the Ports Authority for non payment are allowed to be transferred to warehouses that belong to the government but not goods that are seized and detained for checking.
